Our Story

In September 2017, Mr. Miguel Álvarez organized a group of people from the Garifuna community of Limon, in Honduras, to support the political campaign for the mayor of the Limón community. Because of this, we cannot fail to mention him when we speak of Lumalali Limú, an organization that, in its beginnings, was created under another name and other purposes different from those that we have set as a flagship.

In February 2018, the first group dissolved. However, in conversations between Terry Bermúdez and Estanislao Bonilla, they suggested speaking with a select group of people. Their vision was to continue the organization and seek a way to guarantee the integral growth of the Limón community, ensuring the improvement of education and infrastructure in our community.

Eventually, Terry and Estanislao reached out to Terry Velásquez, Ricardo Bermúdez, Lawrence Pier Pastor, and Mercy Ventura.
During a meeting by video conference, the gentlemen agreed to continue fighting for the Limon community, creating a new organization called Lumalali Limú.

Ricardo Bermúdez took the initiative to begin the creation of the internal regulations of the organization in June 2018, and the founding members joined Mr. Bermudez to prepare the regulations.

Today, Lumali Limu International has affiliate offices in New York, New Orleans, and Honduras, and the main office is in Houston, Texas.
